important that during this condition of blackness or the Ravenshead, to remain with
total calmness of Heart in this Abyss of the Hermetics, until the "40-Day"
examination and purgatory have been passed through.
According to the old Egyptian Mysteries, the Adept must pass through 12 Kingdoms
of the dark Underworld, whereby he has to change garments twelve times, so that
eventually by morning, adorned with the white raiment of the God Osiris, he can be
shown to the crowd, as the "Son of the Sun.? In the Persian Mysteries, the lowest
degree, was that of the "Raven," the fourth degree, that of the "Lion," and the seventh
and the highest, that of the "Eagle."
With the appearance of the Blackness, the first rotation of the Wheel of Nature is
concluded (that means, the first rotation of the Magnum Opus). This is followed by a
second circulation, through which our materia is changed into a white Silverlime.
But before, we proceed to the next operation, namely to cut off the Raven's head.
The Sages teach: "Deprive the Raven - his head." That means, you should separate the
moist Mercurium from the Blackness. Otherwise, the dryness cannot overcome the
moistness, and then the Blackness would become fleeting with the moist Mercurio.
In the beginning, when we compounded Sol and Luna in the moist Mercurio, we
required a great quantity of moistness, otherwise, it would not have been possible for
the moistness to overwhelm and dissolve the dryness.
Now, we must place the weight in such an order, that there is now more dryness than
moistness, because now, our materia must be cleansed and coagulated. Therefore, the
dryness must now be given all the aid, so that it becomes dominant over the
moistness.

In the steeping which follows with the Spiritu volatili of the Blackness, you should
not all at once, add too much moistness, otherwise, the seed will become too moist
and the dryness would not be effective, and a coagulation cannot occur.
The Sages' advice: "Make the red Laton white, and after that burn the books, so that
your hearts will not be broken."
Now, there must occur a new steeping with the aqua secunda or the Spiritu volatili,
that means, with the white Argentum vivum, as it was done before with the Spirit of
Vinegar.
When the glass with the Blackness has stood for 8 days and nights in a gentle fire, it is
then removed from the fire. Then the Blackness is being moistened with the Virgin's
Milk, drop by drop, and in such a manner, that the dryness continues to keep the upper
hand.
When the Sulphur is being steeped with too much water, it then again turns into a
yellow oil (Aurum potabile). It resolves and floats on the Mercurio, and for this
reason a union cannot occur. The Sun should not float on the Moon! We should
follow the example of the potter, who slightly moistens the clay, just enough so it
becomes cohesive.
Then the Blackness, which has been moistened in this manner, is left standing for 2
days and nights without any external fire, and the materia is left with its own fire to
work with, until the quarrel between the two Central-Fires has been settled and the
materia settles again on the bottom. Following that, the glass with the moistened
Blackness is again placed into the oven. However, it must be placed into such a gentle
fire, that the Mercurius does not ascend and fly away as an Eagle. The materia
remains in this manner for another 8 days and nights, until it is totally dry and the
Spiritus becomes coagulated within.
These little steeping processes are being repeated every 8 days and after the steeping
process, it will remain for 2 days and nights without fire in the ashes, until the
whole Mercurius is imbibed by the blackness and the dry Earth has drunk the whole
Spirit, which is approximately 50 times as much as the Corpus.
At the same time, the Corpus increases through the steeping process and each and
every time this is done, the Spirit dissolves with the blackness and with it becomes an
ash, which however, is made more subtile and whitened through the Spirit.
The larger the Corpus becomes, the more Spirit can be added each and every time, as
it can endure the heat longer. That is how the Gold-Embryo continues to grow,
through the nourishment with the Virgin's Milk. Nature insists that a certain time be
taken to accomplish this work, therefore, the steeping and coagulation process should
not be hurried.
Therefore, the Spirit should not be urged too much, because it is a fleeting substance,
which would otherwise break the receptacle and would flee.

have aroused the wrath of the moist Natures, and they will stand up
against the Central-Fire, and this will stand against those, and in the
